My friend JD decides to put on a charity Karaoke competition, which basically turned out to be the party of the year for Ave Maria. I had such a good time there that night as everyone did. He had jugdes that critiqued you after your performance, similar to what American Idol does.

My song for the night was Finch - What it is to Burn. And basically I was the opening act. So immediately I downed my long island to get the jitters outta me. For sure none of the judges had ever heard this song and it begins with a horrendouse scream of "SHE BUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRNSSSS!!!!!!!". That totally got the attention of the crowd and I actually didnt sound too bad. When I got back from Europe I was so tired and out of it and I went for some apple sauce in the fridge.

I was explaining to Susan what I was wanting to eat and I said I want some mashed apples. Here's what I said... "I want some of those apples, what do you call them.??? Those mashed apples."

She laughed so much at it and I will never be able to eat them again with out hearing about the mashed apples.

It was Dave's 25th birthday. We were at Susan's Apt in Ann Arbor. Dave had been drinking pretty steadily all night. Kate and I made Dave a particularly strong drink. We put every type of alcohol in the drink along with a splash of coke.



At some point we sung Happy Birtday and cut the cake. Due to crowd request, I cut loose on the second half of the song and sung "Happy Fucking Birthday Muther Fucker." It was pretty hillarious, Dave's parents were there and everything.



Later that night right before Dave puked over the balcony, I got him to sing "Zombie" by The Cranberries. I knew this was going to be pretty interesting, Dave couldn't even stand up, let alone sing. November 11, 2002 was the day I found out my mother had multiple sclerosis. It was back in the time when any medical issue with her was scary and limitless. Her body was entirely numb on one side; the doctors were guessing she had had either a stroke or a brain tumor. Like I always, I was preparing for the worst but hoping for the best.

My cell phone rang as I was on my way to run an interview at the Ginsberg Center. I was walking down the street in front of the business school, across from my previous home of East Quad. When she told me, my heart stopped. I sat down on the ledge, just in case. She sounded relieved and as she told me what it meant, I became more and more upset and scared. I don't know how I made it home. I cried the whole way and for someone who doesn't cry, crying in the middle of Ann Arbor for five blocks is impressive.
