2004-10-22 | The Eastern Coast,Italy I am putting one entry for the 21st and 22nd.Most of our morning was consumed by packing up and checking out of thehotel. We found a new hotel in Venice and also stopped by at the internetcafe, doing research on Greece and also catching up on emails. We finally figured out the exact schedule for Greece because we have beenthrowing around dates and ferry locations for a while. We figured the bestbet was to go to Corfu instead of Athens first. We spent some time in linesat the train station getting the best deal and booking stuff. We also had 30hours of travel ahead of us so we invested some cash on food. But for the most part, the last day in Venice consisted of a lot ofshopping. We really just wandered. We mostly went down this famous shoppingdistrict. It was quite uneventful, but fun and Matt and I joked around a lotas usual. The next day we woke up butt early to catch our train to Bari where wewould catch the ferry. On the train we played a lot of crazy eights and Ireally am starting to like that game. We also slept a bunch and joked aroundmore. Okay so since there is mostly boring stuff I will tell you guys about oneof our goofy and gross incidences. I ended up letting one rip and Matt said"You better check your pants" and he also commented on the gargling sound itmade. I know .... its nasty. But I don't eat very healthy these days. lol. SoI said... "let me reenact it" as I took a swig of tea in an attempt togargle. But I absolutely couldn't do it because of the built up laughter. Hebusted out laughing and I immediately couldn't hold the liquid in my mouthand some of it sprayed out. Next thing you knew, we were laughing so hardbecause I was essentially drooling on the ground in pain of laughter;laughing so hard tears came out. There was no way I could swallow, so itjust drooled on the floor in the compartment. I guess boys will be boys andthat will never change, eh? (Yes I have been hanging around too manyCanadians, but Michiganders do something similar.... we (I) say huh) But anyways we made it to Bari and I ate the crappiest pizza at the trainstation. It was disgusting. No wonder my body lets em rip, it gets rid ofthe bad food I guess. We walked 2 kilometers with our packs and it was oneof the longer walks, but Bari was pleasantly surprising. It was pretty nice.We booked our ferry to Greece for 6 Euros (Eurail accepted) and the shipwas more like a cruise ship. It was so high class. Cheap eats, a pool, niceseats and a lot more. We met some new Canadian friends Meika and Kate. Theysay "eh" a lot. They basically are following us to the pink palace now thatwe gave them a ton of info. Once we arrived at 6 AM (A 7 hour differencefrom MI) We walked to the connection to the local ferry to Corfu. I slept alot on this 2 hour ferry and once we arrived on Corfu we had an escort towhat would be the greatest hostel I have stayed in thus far, the pinkpalace. I will continue my story of my first day having fun in the sun in mynext update. Take care guys. One more week. :-( It will suck to join therat race of corporate America. Two thumbs down for that. |
