I was so young when my Brother,
father
, my uncle
Kirt
and his sons
Noel
and
Kevin
would go out to rifle river every year. These were some of the most memorable summer weekends of my childhood. I basically am going to merge all of my memories combined into one post.
One of the first memories that I will never forget was the time it was raining out and all of us 4 kids were stuck inside playing old maid. We bought this cool old maid deck at a local party store and I specifically remember buying a johnny appleseed piece of gum too (I dont know why I remember that). Anyways so we were playing this game and everything was good until there was some kind of conflict. It just so happened that the Old Maid had a marking on it and everyone caught on not to take the one thats marked. We all faught about it and were at that age where you get emotional about things like that (especially if you had the old maid). This continued on for about an hour until Kirt just threw the whole deck into the fire. I think even Noel and Kevin got upset because of it. It was pretty funny, but it was nice because it got us all together chit chatting around the fire.
Another story that I remember was how we used to play light tag at night with all of the kids in the camp. It was a lot of fun. I also remember there was stories that were told about the camp about Big Foot being sighted.
Rifle river was extremely cold when inside as well as the rocks on the bottom are extremely sharp and you must wear tennis shoes to walk in the river. Many times the river will just overpower you and you will get sucked away. This one time Noel ended up going out to this little island and was too afraid to come across. So I grabbed the nearest string to throw across to him to save him. But it wouldnt reach somehow I ended up slipping trying to save him and I lost my shoe in the water.
Another fun memory out there was one year the mud slide about half way down the river was really vibrant and we would all eat lunch and slide down the mud into the river.
Usually we would do our major canoeing for about 3 or 4 hours on a saturday. But we would play on rafts and donuts and go up and down the river here and there in our spare time. It was a lot of fun. I am so thankful that my uncle and my dad took us all out there. We would make a lot of new friends that weekend and have a lot of fun.
