Original Memory Interview Question

What holidays and celebrations can you remember from when you were very young?

His Response:

I don't know so much that it is a Holiday but we always went to see a Aunt & Uncle who had a Tobacco farm at least once every year and were even asked to help with the work...it was a hard job for a young kid especially working in what was called the Kiln or Drying House for the skids of tobacco leaves to be cured. Other than that there was the usual Holiday celebrations hosted by my Grandmother annually.

Original Memory Interview Question

How do you think your life growing up was different than what goes on today in a child's life?

His Response:

Children today are 'spoiled brats' direct quote from my Mother.

Well I would say this much, there are some kids who have been given everything and had to earn nothing and that is why they do not like it when they find out to make a living as an Adult they have to actually work. As a child I was given a small allowance from my Dad but as I got older I had to do chores or I didn't get the allowance at all. As I got older I started working part time after school to make extra money to help out the family as my father had lost his job and we were not poor but we were struggling to keep the bills paid monthly. Every time I was given my allowance I was told I had to give back some to my favorite charity and some to the church poor box ans some I had to save then the rest I could spend. Kids today do not get that same sense of responsibility as we did because they are given too many options for everything it is a 'Multiple Choice' life for them we were given less choices.

Original Memory Interview Question

Where did you feel most accepted at the time of being a teenager?

His Response:

i really liked to be in the halls when no one else was around. i excelled at getting out of class for not entirely any good reason at all. it also helped that i had a formidable security blanket hooded sweat shirt ensemble. i enjoyed going home for lunch, but i didn't really like to go outside if i didn't have to.
